Community Resilience Survey: An effort to reduce vulnerability of people to climate-related disasters

A Community Resilience Survey was carried out in Pitahakhowa Gaon, Bhalukekhowa Gaon, Bapubheti Gaon and Bhowalguri Gaon under Bihaguri Block of Sonitpur District in Assam. The survey under the Design of Climate Resilient Villages and Flood Sheltering (Sub-Components of the Assam Integrated River Basin Management Project (AIRBMP) sought to find where flood shelters need to be constructed in the flood affected villages.

Village mapping, household surveys with ESSF (Environmental and Social Sustainability Framework) questionnaire, interviews and PRA exercises were conducted with proposed stakeholders. Case studies and innovations from the ground were collected and Disaster Risk Management practices were captured from the field. All ethical and Covid-19 protocols were followed during the field interventions. Funded at the apex by Word Bank, the survey was led by Roman Boro.
