Waste Pickers Winter Outreach Program

A one-off project, Waste Pickers Winter Outreach Program at the core is an effort to build a relationship with waste pickers, a faceless workforce, a community that is indispensable in our journey toward a circular economy.

DCI visited municipal waste dump sites to interact with waste pickers. Volunteers made them aware of occupational health hazards and social security schemes. They were informed about E-Waste stream segregation and how informal recycling of such waste equipment is hazardous and against the central government guidelines of E-Waste Management. Being a winter outreach, blankets were distributed among the waste pickers whose role in disposing of municipal and other waste is significant.

Funds for Waste Pickers Winter Outreach Program was crowdsourced and led by Syed Miraz Ahmed, Bikash Thakuria and Rizuwan Ahmed.
